The first full year of Latin introduces us to the Cornelii, a Roman senatorial family, whom we will follow while we learn the language, culture, and lifestyles of Ancient Rome. We will start learning the language through short readings in Ecce Romani, the textbook used for the class.
Over the course of the year we will not only learn Latin vocabulary, but also the grammatical structure that serves as the base for many other languages. We'll also continually look at the history, mythology, and influence of Rome and the Latin language. Since there is so much to cover over this first year, students should expect daily homework and be prepared to work strenuously to master the concepts. |
